Council appoints Builder for NEW $3.3m PAVILION! It’s an extraordinary day to be a Brumbie!
In what is a really exciting day for the KBH Brumbies the City of Whitehorse has formally approved the appointment of a builder for the new pavilion. The $3.3m project will commence in April and be completed by January 2018 ready for the 2018 winter season.
Council will fully fund this project but we will be required to provide some of equipment such as TV’s, PA, fridges, etc. We are estimating that we will need around $20k and are over half way to that goal thanks to coterie group, with a further push on fundraising and sponsorships planned for the year.
We will need to move out of the existing pavilion by the end of June and Council will provide temporary change, toilet, storage and canteen facilities – it will be a little inconvenient but the hassle will be worth it in the end!
The existing pavilion will be converted into 6 change rooms and storage. A new wing will be built along the east (Elgar Road) side of the existing ground that will house a multipurpose/social room, canteen, first aid room, umpires change rooms and a viewing deck.
Following on from the recent redevelopment of the pitch, this is stage 2 of our facilities redevelopment. Stage 3 is upgrading of the pitch lighting and work is well underway to deliver this as well. Hopefully we will be able to provide further updates on this shortly but we expect that the upgrade will improve lighting to the 500 lux level required by HV to host Premier League night matches.
The final stage is construction of a second pitch which Council has included in the Elgar Park masterplan but it follows after construction of our pavilion and then reconstruction of the other pavilion in the park (which will follow after ours). In addition to all of this our electronic scoreboard is currently being manufactured and will be installed in the next couple of months.
Heaps of work has gone into lobbying Council over 15+ years for improved pavilion facilities at Elgar Park but the work has been particularly intense over the past 7 years since the mini-tornado ripped the roof of the current pavilion.
Thanks to everyone that has provided input into the process and to everyone for being patient and forgiving about our facilities over the years. I know it has been particularly trying dealing with our facilities (or lack of!) over the years but expect lots in return for your patience from January 2018 onwards!
