Vale ‘Billy’ Walker
It is with great sadness that KBH announces the death of club legend Bill Walker.
I was privileged to have played with and been coached by Bill. He was one of the toughest and most fierce players to have played for Kew. Bill had a decorated career as a junior, senior and veteran earning state representation at all three levels.
Although spending a lot of time in the USA over recent years Bill kept a keen interest in the Kew and more recently KBH Hockey Club.- Matt Morrow
Thank you to John Hopper for the following snapshot of Bill’s Hockey achievements.
Bill Walker (1946-2019)
Bill played for Kew Hockey Club as a junior, and then in the top senior team that won its way back into A Grade in 1964 where it stayed a power for more than a decade.
Through that period, Bill won the Best & Fairest Award several times, the last in 1978. He was a Victorian representative in Colts (1966) and then Seniors (1973-74).
Bill coached the club’s top team in 1981 to secure promotion to State League 1 and was a Platinum supporter of the club. Bill went on to play competitive hockey and in Veterans competitions for many years, including state representation.- John Hopper
